Time in Hawaii- Part One (Week 1)

We got in the morning of August 5th and waited for Kamaile & Micela to arrive in the afternoon. Once they arrived, we did some errands and in the middle of our errands, they all fell asleep.

The next day was filled with errands getting ready for the funeral but we did make time for the beach that Friday. This is at Ko'olina beach where it was baby Nancy's first beach visit. That night we went to a birthday dinner at Sizzler's for Adam's 7th birthday.
On Saturday, we had a private family viewing for Great Nana. After that we headed to North Shore to hang out, meet more family, watch the sunset and for a night time swim.

Sunday, we all prepared for the viewing that night. We met more family and friends. "Where do you want to go Grandpa?"
Monday morning was the burial. My favorite part was putting flowers in the grave. I wanted to put ALL the flowers in the grave.

After we ate lunch, we headed to the beach where I rode the paddle board and played in the sand like a turtle.

Tuesday afternoon, we went to Ala Moana beach. There's a funeral tradition that after a funeral the family goes to the beach or river to "Gol-gol." It when someone puts a liquid concoction over your head, face then you turn towards the ocean and go into the water. It is to take out all the negative spirits out.

Wednesday, Kamaile and Micela went back home. That night we had a dinner at Sam Choy's. Guess what I ate for dinner?! Ahi-Poki (raw fish).

Hi Lee, What a busy time you had in Hawaii - and - what things you learned about your Mom's cultural background. I enjoyed the photos (your eyelashes are getting longer and your smile is getting bigger) and enjoyed learning of some of the traditions you experienced. Your cousins are so attractive and surely do look like they like YOU! Thank your mom for the update of your blog. See you very soon. With Love, Nancy
